Virginia, St. Louis. 10:15 am Sunday 1 Feb. I don't know if they are rare in the winter - I have seen them in the summer, but not winter. I did take several photos, probably not great quality but identifiable. Also have a male Dark-eyed Junco that has been here all winter. I see it at least every other day. I just hope it and the merlin don't end up in the same place at the same time.
