Subject: Greater White-fronted Geese, Lake Byllesby, Dakota Cty

At around 11 am today, I saw at least 14 G. White-fronted Geese on Lake
Byllesby. They were with Canada Geese and Mallards at the far northwest end
of the lake.

There is a Dakota Cty Park entrance about a 1/4 mile east of the Hwy 56/88
intersection, accessed from a pull-off on the south side of 88. It's
possible to park a few cars on the pull-off, but park on the shoulder of 88
if it's too wet. Walk the trail on the other side of the gate to an open
area, bearing down a hill to your right to find an opening to the lake. You
can also go through a wooded area to your left to get to the edge of the
lake. I scoped from the beach, and found the geese in the farthest
northwest corner. I also saw 3 Green-winged Teal close to shore at this
location. There is a little open water close to the beach off Lakeside
Cemetery, east of this spot, but most of the waterfowl were at the west end
this morning.
