Greeting from the FOREST along the Straigt River in Faribault:

Yesterday we drove to Wabasha, then Redwing and back to Faribault.  We haven't
been out birding beyond Rice County much this year. Happy to see so many
Redwing Black Birds. Smelled our first skunk for this year. Saw our first
Common Grackle in Goodhue County, and our first Turkey Vultures.  It was
interesting how few Bald Eagles we did see.  We know they are going on north to
nest.  We saw only 13 Bald Eagles in Goodhue County. Many Ring-billed Gulls seen
in different places on the Mississippi River.   On our way home from Redwing we
saw 6 KILLDEER in Rice County along Highway 19.

Today at Wells Lake we added our first Great Blue Herons, seen in the trees on
the island.  Also added a Ring-necked Duck, Shovelers, Bufflehead, and eight or
more migrating Robins.
