At the west end of Lake Byllesby, highlights were some blue-winged
teal among the green-winged, fox sparrow among the song and tree
sparrows, and a low flyover of about 40 tundra swans. Lots of eagles
were present, along with the several species of dabblers and divers
already reported by others.

Further upriver, just east of the bridge, there was flock of
bufflehead going through courtship ritual---head-bobs, full
neck-extension, outright physical battle between males, pairings, and
copulation---most fascinating for Sue (Plankis) and me to witness at
close range, from behind tall grasses and some clusters of tree trunks
along the bank. We could hear the usual and/or expected birds in the
trees, including an active kingfisher, brown creeper, bluebirds, etc.,
but we were pretty riveted to the bufflehead performance!
