There's a lot of mudflat on the northwest end, and more water than a week ago. Viewed in a field east of Dakota Lake Byllesby Regional Park, along the park entrance road. (About 6 mi. east of Randolph 56/88 intersection): Eastern Meadowlark: 2 singing Viewed from the northwest shore of Lake Byllesby, accessed from the pull-off on 88, 1/4 mi. east of 56/88: C. Merganser pair N. Shoveler 15 Green-winged Teal 20 Bald Eagle 10 Song Sparrow 3 Fox Sparrow 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 1 Noisy flocks of A. Robins, Tree Sparrows and SC Juncos Viewed behind St. Mark's Lutheran Church in a pond. (From 56/88, take 56 about 1/2 mi north; turn left just past the church onto a paved road, then left again to view pond behind the church): Ring-necked Duck 12 N. Shoveler 10 Gadwall 4 Bufflehead 1 Also: Western Meadowlark: 2 singing near the pond Viewed flying over fields, east of 56, along Scotia Trail. (Go south past bridge on 56 (from 88) and turn east at the sign for public access road to a boat launch, Goodhue Cty side of lake): Northern Harrier: 1 hunting At the boat launch: Enormous, noisy flocks of several hundred RW Blackbirds and C. Grackles. The lake at the beach is still iced over except for a few areas, where there are RB Gulls and Bald Eagles.
