Driving along Columbine Road just west of Prairie Center Drive late this afternoon I noticed a flock of large white birds lounging on a bar of land in the middle of the water at Purgatory Creek Recreation Area. I pulled into a parking lot and saw that it was a flock of about 50 Swans. It was hard to see with the wind watering my eyes but a good number of the birds had brown tinted necks indicating juvenile Trumpeters.
