Hey birders!

I had a chance to get out in the county Thursday afternoon. The Cobb River WPA
is looking like it will have outstanding shorebird habitat this spring though
there were no shorebirds yesterday to provide evidence of the fact. Take CR16
south from CR10 (east of Hwy 22) and you will see shorebird habitat on both
sides of the road. The east side of CR16 is the new development. There is
lots of water and mud and very little vegetation. This area is also accessible
from 597th Avenue north of CR4. The west side of CR16 has a burned wetland
that is mud, stubble, and shallow water.

Other Highlights:
Perch Lake had about 300 Canvasbacks.

A pair of Sandhill Cranes soaring over the Cobb River WPA (3rd county record
for me--missed during last year's BIG year).

A pair of American Black Ducks at Cobb River WPA (corner of CR16 and
CR168)--also missed during last year's BIG year.

Hundreds of ducks in the large impoundment barely visible on the west side of
CR16. If you hike into the WPA to the top of the hill with your scope, you can
get good looks.

First Turkey Vultures of the year. First American Pipits of the year.

Happy birding!
