Field Trip Report Spent the last few days leading a trip to the Mankato area. The lakes are open in the area and many are filled with waterfowl. We encounter several with large rafts of Canvasback and Redhead. There were also lots of Scaup and Ring-necked Duck as well. Here are a few of the species we enjoyed observing on the trip. Sunday - April 5 Rough-legged Hawk - Observed in flight at Hiniker Pond Park. American Woodcock - 4 at the picnic area at Minneopa State Park. Monday - April 6 All sightings were in Blue Earth county. 18 species of waterfowl, with Good Thunder Sewage Ponds, Lura Lake & Cottonwood Lakes and the Maple River WMA offering the best viewing. Wilson's Snipe - Cobb River WMA American Woodcock - Rasmusson Woods Park Franklin's Gull - Lura Lake Eurasian Collared-Dove - Mapleton - across from the Casey's Gas station. Barred Owl - Rassmusson Woods park Winter Wren - Rassmusson Woods park Golden-crowned Kinglet - Rassmusson Woods park Ruby-crowned Kinglet - Rassmusson Woods park Hermit Thrush - Rassmusson Woods park Fox Sparrow - Schimek County Park Lapland Longspur - Several flocks in field SW of St. Clair. Rusty Blackbird - Wildwood County Park Tuesday - April 7 Le Sueur County 17 species of waterfowl on Lake Emily, Dog Lake and Lake Henry. Common Loon - Lake Emily Horned Grebe - Lake Henry Rough-legged Hawk - Kasota Prairie Lesser Yellowlegs - just East of Dog lake. Wilson's Snipe - Sleepy Eye Sewage Ponds Northern Shrike - Kasota Prairie Winter Wren - Lake Washington County Park Golden-crowned Kinglet - Lake Washington County Park Hermit Thrush - Nye County Park Fox Sparrow - Lake Washington County Park Rusty Blackbird - 367th ave, at the county line, with Blue Earth county.
