Folks,

Spent most of the day birding with Bonnie Sample and Don Vrchota in Jackson
County today and saw a great variety of bird life. We had the first Western
Meadowlark of the season and actually several of them. At Kilen Woods there
were singing Ruby-crowned Kinglets as well as Winter Wrens and Fox Sparrows. In
open wetlands we had a Snipe and the usual variety of waterfowl. We saw a Great
Egret (first of the year), Belted Kingfisher (foy), and Common Merganser. I
mentioned to Bonnie and Don that Kilen Woods is one of the best kept secrets in
terms of local birding and its small campground (with a new bathhouse
facility!) really should have appeal for camping birders. Enjoy!Eric
