Good Morning:  Lots of notes of nesting Siskins on the Iowa list and Wisconsin
list.  Thus I wasn't surprised to see Pine Siskins building a nest in one of
our backyard spruces.  It was around 10 feet high.  It seemed like the female
built the nest and two males would chase her around the backyard from tree to
tree.  Checked the nest wednesday morning from our window and it was about
done.  The male was sitting in a nearby tree.  30 minutes later I looked again
and the nest was in shreds with half of it out on the end of the spruce branch.
Who did it I don't know.  The siskins have disappeared from our backyard.
While walking in the neighborhood the day before that I saw three siskins
chasing each other like they were here so I suspect other attempted nesting
here in Mower county.

Yesterday while driving south on highway 63 out of Rochester I spotted what
sure looked like a Bald Eagle nest with two white headed adults on or by it.
The location was just south of the new 48th street exit, on the west side of
highway 63, almost directly south of that new Quik Trip.  There is a dead end
frontage road just west of highway 63 there and the nest was directly west of
there, right about where highway 63 south starts up the hill towards the
airport.  A lady was walking her dogs there as I drove by. The nest is just a
few hundred yards from the busy four lane highway 63.  Maybe it been there
before.  Assu
me its okay to give out this location since it is really in an urban location.
