I watched an immature bald eagle hanging out at Hyland Lake in Bloomington
yesterday. He seemed to cruise mostly along the shoreline, and at one point
landed in a tree very close to where I was walking for a good look through my
binocs. I also had a fleeting glimpse of a barred owl flying from its next on
the south end of Hyland Lake. For whatever reasons, there have been nesting
owls at the south end of the lake for several years. There were also a few
cormorants and the usual assortment of mallards and Canada geese. The loons
have apparently moved on.
