Good turnout plus the interesting weather (mid-80s on Thursday then an inch
of snow on the ground over much of the area by Saturday morning) made for
good few days of birding. 152 species were tallied on Saturday night.
Including Friday and Sunday additions 159+ species were seen in the area
over the weekend.

Some of the Saturday highlights:

White-winged Scoter--Female along Big Stone NWR dike road.
Sharp-tailed Grouse & Greater Prairie-chickens--Plover Prairie.
Cattle Egret--Marsh Lake pelican colony.
White-faced Ibises--Thielke Lake.
Ferruginous Hawk--just north of Odessa.
Prairie Falcon--about 1 mile SW of Dawson sewage lagoons.
Piping Plover-Haydenville WMA.
American Avocets--Pair at Haydenville WMA Friday thru Sunday.
Hudsonian Godwit--Haydenville WMA.
Eurasian Collared-Dove--Marietta.
Short-eared Owl--2 at Plover Prairie, 2 along south side of Big Stone NWR.
Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrow--near Bolland's Slough.


Sunday notables:
Snowy Egret--Caerulean WMA (2 miles south then 1.5 miles west of
Bellingham).
American Avocets--9 birds half mile east of Caerulean WMA (also two Willets
and Am. Golden-Plover present here.)
Trumpeter Swan--Caerulean WMA.
