I will be away from the office the next four days, so wanted to share final
MOU Sherburne Refuge field trip instructions:
1) If you were on the waiting list, please come. We have enough room with a
couple of cancellations the last few days.
2) Meet at Mahnomen Trail at 7:00 AM, Saturday May 16th. Take 169 to
Sherburne CR 9, 9 west into the refuge, Mahnomen is the first trail on the
left (there is a sign).
3) Feel free to come for as long as you like. The morning trip will be in
the refuge - Mahnomen Trail, Blue Hill Trail, the Prairie Wildlife Auto
Tour. The optional afternoon trip is scheduled for Mille Lacs Lake and
Kathio State Park, we will head north around 1:00 or so. Bring your own
lunch or pick up one in town. The last stop does require a state park
sticker (day or year).
4) Bring clothing suitable for walking in cooler weather. The "weather
gods" are anticipating a high of 62. The trip will still go on in light
rain; however, downpours could cancel it.
5) The trip is free, although gas money for car poolers is always
appreciated - as is chocolate.
6) My cell is 763-257-9121 if you have any further questions. I will be in
Big Stone/Lac Qui Parle on Wednesday, doing a Big Day along 169 on Thursday,
and in the Cities area on Friday - Lord willing and the creek doesn't rise.
Sometimes my cell doesn't work in Big Stone - or I'm too focused on a
warbler to answer - please leave a message.
