If you have been thinking about signing up for a block to survey, now would be
a good time to sign up! The blocks are 3 mi x 3 mi and are usually in the NE
corner of a township. Go to the website

    http://mnbba.org

to get information about the Minnesota breeding bird atlas. You can check out
what blocks are still available by clicking on
http://mnbba.org/blockmap/hover.php.

Block requests can be made through the MNBBA site or directly on Cornell's
http://bird.atlasing.org/Atlas/MN page. I think that you will find that it is
easier to request a block on the MNBBA site (since I helped with the software
for this site) and you can print a map of the survey area. After you have
selected a block, the request is forwarded to the bird.atlasing.org site.

There is also a "Discussion Forum" on the mnbba.org site where you can share
what you are finding, post a question, or participate in a discussion.

Entry of bird observations is possible on either the MOU site
(http://moumn.org) or the bird.atlasing.org site, which you can get to from the
http://mnbba.org site. It is probably better to enter the birds in just one of
the two sites rather than double entry to both. Records entered into the MOU
site are forwarded to the bird.atlasing.org site on a regular basis, and
vice-versa.

If you have been entering bird records into the MOU seasonal report, it may be
easier to continue with this method. Just make sure that you have registered
on the bird.atlasing.org site so your sightings can be attributed to you.

At this point, of the 2,352 "priority" blocks, 188 have been requested or
assigned. Some counties are missing a block owner. Sign up for your block
before the one that you want is gone.
