This morning awoke to the haunting vocals of a Harris' Sparrow near the house. Around 8 AM while filling a grape jelly feeder in a dead dwarf apple tree we maintain as a feeder station, the Harris' sat a few feet above me singing. While I was gone all day at work my wife became convinced its calls were being answered by another in the nearby woods. This evening a Harris' made a brief appearance at the feeder station outside our bay window. Always one of my favorites during migration, I have never seen one here after early May.
