A few years back I groused about July birding, and a strong birder wrote
back that Minnesota really doesn't have a bad birding month.
Based on this week's evidence, I must concur - 115 species along the 169
corridor (Sherburne NWR to Aitkin 18) - which only included a half day trip
and four morning walks of 30-60 minutes. This included 13 sparrows (missed
Vesper, which nests near our yard) - 14 warblers (number of misses there) -
8 flycatchers (including Olive-sided and Yellow-bellied) - five thrushes,
four wrens - yet only six woodpeckers, six ducks and two finches.
I might still quibble about February, my slowest month of the year.
By the way, an observer reported eight Common Moorhen young on Sherburne
NWR's Auto Tour this week.
Good birding to all!
