This was the first year for the Purple Martin colony at Rice Lake National
Wildlife refuge in McGregor MN. Under the direction of Kelly Applegate we
attended a class and were all prepared to care for a new colony, our first
Purple Martin experience. We had only one house filled but 4 eggs, of those,
4 birds hatched. With the poor insect numbers only one survived. For the
first year of the Purple Martin house being up for nesting, and the poor
weather conditions, I guess not too bad. Doug and Linda
