Craig Mandel and I ventured down to Dakota County this afternoon in search of
shorebirds. We saw no Buff-breasted Sandpipers during our visit; the only
shorebirds there were Killdeer and one Solitary Sandpiper.

Other birds seen were 2-3 Sandhill Cranes, Peregrine Falcon, and Horned Larks.

A lot of the sod farm fields at Castle Rock have been converted to corn and
soybean, so habitat is a bit more limited there.

>From what I have heard from other birders, this area was empty yesterday as
>well, but the day before that, there were several shorebirds: Pectoral
>Sandpipers, American Golden-Plovers, and an Upland Sandpiper. So it looks like
>shorebird diversity is changing daily. But as far as I know, Buff-breasted
>Sandpipers have not been seen in the area for a week or so.

Yesterday, I saw my first-of-season Philedalphia Vireo in Golden Valley,
Hennepin County. There were no other passerine migrants.

Good birding!
