This is the Northwest Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, August 20,
2009 sponsored by the Detroit Lakes Regional Chamber of Commerce. You
may also hear this report by calling (218)847-5743 or 1-800-433-1888.

The past week has been so stormy that both birds and humans have
hunkered down. Summer appears to have lasted all of three days, now fall
weather is upon us.

Shelley Steva spotted a SWAINSON'S HAWK four miles south of Brooks in
Polk County on August 17.

At Agassiz NWR in Marshall County, the weekend shorebird survey found 17
species of shorebirds. Included was one BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and one
WILLET. After the storms on the weekend and earlier this week, a lot of
the habitat is covered with water, and most of the birds have moved on,
replaced by many brown ducks of several species.

Thanks to Shelley Steva for her report.

Please report bird sightings to Jeanie Joppru by email, no later than
Thursday each week, at [email protected] OR call the Detroit Lakes
Chamber's toll free number: 1-800-542-3992. Detroit Lakes area birders
please call 847-9202. Please include the county where the sighting took
place. The next scheduled update of this report is Thursday, August 27,
2009.
