There were 2 juvenile Long-billed Dowitchers present late this morning, Aug 30, at the 40th Ave West Erie Pier area in Duluth. These were among the 6 shorebird species seen among the total of only 7 individual shorebirds present (could this be some sort of record for efficiency, finding that many species among so few individuals?). The other species were one each of Am Golden-Plover, Lesser Yellowlegs, Stilt, Pectoral and Least sandpipers.

All the birds were in the mud-lined pond on the SW side of Erie Pier: i.e., when you walk in the entrance road and cross the tracks to the levee, go right along the road between the tracks and the levee, and the pond is visible from the top of the levee just after the road turns left away from the tracks. (There were no visible mudflats on the NE side of the area.)
