Returning home from fishing the Red River in Kittson County, I made a few birding stops today.
There were a few Red-necked Phalaropes at the Lake Bronson sewage ponds in Kittson County. The Erskine sewage ponds in Polk County were PACKED with birds. I only had binoculars, but the ponds are easily viewed from outside the fence and I managed to find a Long-billed Dowitcher in the group that called when it finally got nervous about me watching it. Was gently hassled (blocked in with an old pickup truck, questioned, and told to stay out) by an off-duty municipal employee at the Plummer sewage ponds in Red Lake County despite the fact that I did all of my viewing from outside of the fence. Must not be much else to do in Plummer on a beautiful pre-holiday Friday afternoon.... Lots of migrant Common Nighthawks along Hwy 2 in Clearwater County around 6:30 pm. -- Shawn Conrad http://users.2z.net/itasca_chippewa_birding/ ---- Join or Leave mou-net:http://lists.umn.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=mou-net Archives:http://lists.umn.edu/archives/mou-net.html
