Gusty east winds produced a few notable things along Park Point,
Duluth this afternoon. A first-cycle Franklin's Gull (now with a gray
mantle) was seen loafing with a group of Ring-billed Gulls at about
4:00 PM, just out from the beach house at Park Point Recreation Area.
Unfortunately, it did not hang around too long, taking flight along
with the rest of the gulls, disappearing for good shortly thereafter.
Additionally, there were 2 or 3 distant jaegers, all most likely
Parasitic, but not identified definitively. The first was seen from
Lafayette Square at approximately 3:15 PM, with two others (perhaps
overlap) seen in quick succession the better part of an hour later
from Park Point Recreation Area. All were seen heading NW, well
offshore.
Other highlights from the three-hour vigil include 2 Green-winged
Teal, 4 Sanderling, 2 Dunlin, and 2 Lapland Longspurs.
Good Birding,
