Lake Byllesby, far west end by cemetery

That's right. Swoose. I first saw this bird take flight as I got out of my car.
At first I thought it was likely the domestic goose that has been present off
and on over the past couple of years. As it turned I realized it was more
swan-like in profile. It was overall dusky white like a juvenile. I thought it
seemed small for a Tundra Swan and was a bit puzzled as it flew away. Later, it
returned and was standing among 100 Canada Geese. It was barely larger (if at
all) than the largest geese present. It had black legs, a long neck, but not
quite as long proportionately as a Tundra Swan. The bill was pinkish and
intermediate in size between a goose and swan. The area between the eye and
base of bill was feathered. If alone, the bird could easily be ID'd as a Tundra
Swan juvenile. But I'm putting my money on a Swoose, most likely a domestic
Swoose at that.

Yup, things are a bit slow here in Dakota County lately.
