This afternoon, Bill Stauffer and I birded around parts of the county. We found a NORTHERN HAWK OWL sitting on a pole right at the junction of Aitkin County Road 18 and Aitkin County Road 5. It was a very obliging bird and was still there when we left. We also found a flock of about two dozen COMMON REDPOLLS along Aitkin County Road 18, about a mile east of Highway 169. Also seen: 4 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS and 5 TRUMPETER SWANS.
