I've been getting some cool shots of Thayer's Gulls this past week. When I
met up with Karl Bardon and Andrew Longtin this morning at Canal Park, Karl
pointed out a 3rd-cycle Thayer's Gull. I'm starting to catch on to the
subtle differences in each age throughout Thayer's Gulls. Gull watching is
really addicting! I also got a few neat shots of Herring Gulls and Great
Black-backed Gulls.

Herring Gull Question....
I have no experience with Vega Herring Gulls, nor do I have any gull books
currently with me to assist in gull specifics. I'm thinking that the gull on
the right in these two photos is a darker-mantled, darker-eyed American
Herring Gull. There is enough difference between these two gulls to show
remarks from Sibley's Vega/American Herring Gull illustrations. Comments are
welcome with the bird on the right.

This afternoon I visited Wisconsin Point and gull-watched at the Superior
Entry. Highlights were one juvenile Glaucous Gull.

Good birdwatching,
