So far in the last week 8 new Northern Hawk Owls have been reported in
northeastern Minnesota. From what has been reported either on the MOU listserv
& RBA's and other sources there are now 27 Northern Hawk Owls reported this
fall season and we have not even officially began the winter season. It looks
like this will be a great year for birders to locate Northern Hawk Owls. So
far the hot spots are north of Two Harbors along CR 2 and along FR 11/16 where
several Hawk Owls have been seen and also Sax Zim Bog area. Now that deer
hunting season is officially over with I suspect more birders will now venture
into these areas to look for owls.
