11/23/2009 I birded in the morning and early afternoon with Ruth Hiland, spending time in Rice and Waseca counties. Here are some of the species we observed
Rice County Cannon Lake Common Goldeneye - 100+ Common Loon - 3 Horned Grebe - 1 American Tree Sparrow - 100s Dark-eyed Junco - 100s Waseca County Loon Lake Snow Goose - Two - One white phase and one blue phase bird. Ross's Goose - Both birds were still present at 1:00 - 200 PM, on the East side of the lake. Thanks to Dave Bartkey for posting these birds yesterday. Cackling Goose - 100+ Franklin's Gull - One Ring-billed Gull - 100s - Could be a good spot to check in the late afternoon, as there seemed to be a large number of birds that appeared to be settling in for the evening.
