This morning at 8:15, Lars and I saw one Great Gray Owl about a quarter mile west of Pietz's Road on Aitkin Cty Rd 18. (Thanks to Warren Nelson and Butch for the suggestion to look there--they saw two at this location later). We saw another on the Hedbom logging road, 3.5 miles east of its western end Jct with Cty Rd 36.
Large group of redpolls coming to the road just inside the gate at the western end of the Hedbom Logging Road near Floodwood. Easy driving on the road today--not much snow yet, but no mud. Snow Buntings on Aitkin Cty Rd 5 north of Palisade. Saw at least 8 Rough-legged Hawks along Cty Rd 5 and along Cty Rd 18.
