I birded a bit on Saturday and Sunday. Overall, sightings of hawks and owls
were down, perhaps due to the cold conditions and lack of snow.

In Aitkin county on Saturday, I saw the two Great Grey owls mentioned by Dave
Benson and Warren Nelson on Hwy 18. They were both out hunting at 9:30am, with
the sun shining bright. No hawk owls on Hwy 18 or Hwy5, but I did refind the
owl on Hwy 1 0.5 miles North of the end of the blacktop. The bird was only out
near the road for a few minutes, then flew off into the woods.

Did find a new hawk owl on Lind Road off Hwy 73 North of Chisolm. The bird was
about 1.5 miles west of Hwy 73. I will note that I've been through that area
about 5 times previously this winter and no owls previously. The bird was
visible yesterday about 3:30pm.

A few redpolls were seen up North, but the numbers at feeders so far here in
Duluth are very low.

Good luck birding!
