The following is a partial summary of my sightings from the 2009 fall season in
eastern Carver County. I did not include all species, particularly waterfowl,
as I feel the message is long as it is. If you are interested in those species
I can send them to you. I did my best to keep accurate counts, though I did
not count most summer residents. Species with a + means I made an estimated
count at least 1 of the times observed. Of course some of the birds counted
may have been counted more than once if they stayed in the same location for an
extended period of time which is likely. For example, I observed Northern
Parula on 2 days, 3 days apart. I am fairly sure this was the same bird, as
it was seen in pretty much the same location. I estimated that I spent
somewhere between 130 and 140 hours in the field over the entire season.
The most interesting sightings today were 14 Common Mergansers at Rapids Lake
MVNWR and 9 Robins drinking from the river. Otherwise I received a 2nd hand
report of several Bobwhite in the town of Victoria(a person's backyard south of
hwy 5) and a Bobcat along Purgatory Creek in Eden Prairie earlier this month.
