There has been a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, adult male, at the Lake Bemidji
State Park entrance station coming to the feeders for about a week. It was
seen on the Bemidji CBC on Saturday by Pat Rice and others and photographed
by Mary Lou Marchand.

On Sunday, the Itasca St. Park CBC was held. Highlights included a record
number of Red-breasted Nuthatches, good numbers of both Red ( many well
photographed by Noel Benson) and White-winged Crossbills, a single Boreal
Chickadee at a feeder on Lake Alice near the Lake Alice Bog SNA, a single
White-throated Sparrow feeding on grit along Clearwater County Rd. #2 at the
Mississippi River Bridge 4 miles north of the park, a few Evening Grosbeaks and
two Black-backed Woodpeckers. Both counts had several mid-day hunting
Barred Owls. A researcher spouse of one participant indicated that small
mammal counts this winter have been a quite low numbers. Also, I have a
third party report of a Great Grey Owl four miles north of Nevis in the Paul
Bunyan St. Forest late last week and another road killed on St. Hi. 64 several
miles south of Nevis.
