First day of 2009/10 winter bird guiding. Today was day one of three days I
will spend birding with Sam Plew & 4 other birders of NE Indiana.

1. Great Gray Owl on McDavitt Rd about 4 miles north of Sax Rd ( CR 28 )
2. Black-backed Woodpecker ( same spot as owl but on east side of road )
3. Boreal Chickadee calling at the Admiral Rd feeder but never came to deer
rib. ( 3.7 miles north of Cranberry Ln )
4. White-winged Crossbills in decent flocks along McDavitt Rd, Admiral Rd and
near the corner of Spruce Rd & CR 133
5. Bohemian Waxwing ( lone bird in Meadowlands )

Duluth Highlights:

On the ice behind WLSSD:

1. Gr Black-backed Gull ( 2 = Adults 1 = first cycle )

Canal Park / Leif Erickson Park

1. Common Loon ( spotted by Peder Svingen who was with us part of the afternoon
)

Stoney Point

1. American Tree Sparrow!! Coming to the feeder in front of the brick house
just up the road from the brick wall or in other words the same feeder where a
imm Blue Grosbeak was found last May by Kim Eckert ) I met the home owner who
is extremely nice and doesn't mind birders viewing his feeder from the road.

Tomorrow I'll be in Lake County.

Good Birding
