Day 2 & 3 with Sam Plew's group 12/28 Highlights ( Lake County )
- Hoary Redpoll on Lake County Rd 2. I did not take any mileage where I was since these redpolls are constantly moving around. This was a classic male Hoary Redpoll seen with 10 other Common Redpolls. - Northern Hawk Owl about 1 mile west of the Beaver Creek road on CR 15/FR 11 - Bohemian Waxwings in Two Harbors on the north side neighborhood just a few blocks north of the Amoco gas station. Duluth Highlights: Behind the WLSSD Sewage Plant off 27th Ave West. - 2 first cycle Glaucous Gulls - 1 first cycle Great Black-backed Gull Wisconsin Highlights Barker's Island - Snowy Owl roosting on bay ice off from the Motel on island. Look among all the cracked up ice as it was roosting near one of the large chunks of ice. Wisconsin Landfill - Iceland Gull ( 1= adult 1= first cycle ) - Thayer's Gull ( 1 = adult 1 first cycle ) - Glaucous Gull ( 2 first cycle and 1 2nd cycle ) - Great Black-backed Gull ( 1 = first cycle ) 12/29 Highlights Aitkin County Kestrel Ave & Hwy 210 - 10 Sharp-tailed Grouse on lek dancing in -14 degree temps at 8:00am McGregor - Northern Hawk Owl on Hwy 210 about 1 mile west of McGregor on north side of road in small tamarack/spruce bog. North of Palisade on CR 18 - Great Gray Owl about 1/2 mile east of 320th on CR 18 - Hawk Owl on CR 18 roughly about 2.5-3.0 miles west of 320th on north side of road On Highway 200 east of Hill City Northern Hawk Owl ( notes in car in exact location but email me for directions ) Sax Zim Bog - Black-backed Woodpecker 3.0 miles north of Sax Rd on west of road.
