Hello:

Out guiding a birder from Texas today:

Highlights in Sax-Zim Bog:

Hawk Owl: CR 28 & CR 7 ( just a tenth of mile or so north of this intersection
on the west side of 7 )
Boreal Chickadees (3) All visiting the deer carcass feeder on the Admiral RD
( CR 788 )
Black-backed Woodpecker (female) Admiral Rd feeder working on a dead spruce on
west side of road.
Gray Jays
Pine Grosbeaks (20) of them visiting the Arkola Rd ( CR 52 ) deer carcass
feeders
White-winged Crossbills

Duluth:

Bohemian Waxwings: West Tisher Rd near the intersection of Washburn Rd. These
birds have been in this area for two weeks now.

Snowy Owl: Seen from Barker's Island in Superior WI. Look out in the bay
along the edge of crumbled ice.

*** ALERT*** IF you bird with pet dogs near any of the Sax-Zim Bog deer
carcass feeders ( admiral Rd / Arkola Rd or Owl Avenue ) a trapper has set
snare traps near these feeders in the woods. I got an email from a local
birder/photographer who is responsible for setting up some of these feeders in
the "bog" and his dog was caught in one of these snares today. The dog is ok
but he asked that I spread the word about these snares.

Thanks

Mike
