Traveled to Aitkin County on Friday afternoon, covering CR 18, 5, Palisade,
and a few roads south of Palisade.
Highlights were two Northern Hawk Owls on 18 (one at the intersection of 18
& 5 stayed around a pole for 1.5 hours) - WW Crossbills (numerous) and Grey
Jays on the snowmobile trail - Redpolls along the road and trail (could not
track down a Hoary) - and Snow Buntings at the above intersection (flying
over the NHO's head).
Observation - have not had a Great Gray Owl along CR 18 or Pietz's road in
over a year - wonder if numbers have diminished there?
Sorry for the late report, had two funerals to do this weekend.
