Thanks for all the replies. The one definite suggestion is ibirdexplorer for iPhone or iTouch. My husband has it on his iTouch, it's dandy. I tried to find it for Droid, no luck. I did find a Facebook forum, looks like ibird/whatbird is getting ready to test a beta version of ibird for Droid. No idea how long that takes. There's definitely a market out there, including many of us. And carriers - nobody is perfect - Verizon works for me and does well around the country. I'll let you all know if I find anything more, and you all please do the same.
