This evening I took a short trip north and east of Aitkin to check out the rice paddies. There were over six hundred TUNDRA SWANS, three hundred MALLARDS and about a hundred CANADA GEESE on the paddies. There were also: twelve ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, a lone SNOW BUNTING, two NORTHERN HARRIERS and a pair of CROWS building a nest along the road. To get there, go north of Aitkin on Highway 169 for about six miles to County Road 56, then east on C.R. 56 for about two and a half miles. The paddies are all flooded and are on both sides of the road. Warren Nelson
