I keep so many lists (automatically through the birding software I use)
but I guess the ones I care about most, in order, are Life (world),
ABA, Current State/County Lists, other states...

It's getting harder and harder to get life birds in the US (unless I go
to Alaska or S. Texas) so most of my "birding related" trips, which
also tend to coincide with photography interests, tend to be abroad.
My last one was South Africa in 2008 which netted about 330 life birds,
50 or so life mammals, and a whole host of cool experiences.  Next i'm
pondering seriously Thailand next year, because there are significant
numbers of entire families that would be brand new, having never birded
Asia before (Pittas, Spiderhunters, Broadbills, Frogmouths, Leafbirds,
Flowerpeckers, etc)...

Having just moved to a new state late last year though, building my
Kansas and Missouri lists will be an interesting venture over the
coming years as well as the appropriate county lists.  Finally have
started to have the time to get out birding so have started to build
some lists for a few Kansas counties.  Looking forward to migration,
which starts in Kansas a few weeks earlier than it does in Minnesota.

So I guess in general i'd rather have a life bird, but i'm always
interested in state and county birds too...
