Sometimes it's good - without becoming too negative - too reflect on what
has not been seen during a migration:
* Waterfowl: Ross' & Greater White-fronted Geese (not seen every year in
central MN)
* Red-necked & Eared Grebe (same)
* Black-bellied Plover, American Golden Plover, Hudsonian & Marbled Godwits,
Ruddy Turnstone, Sanderling, White-rumped (still early), Stilt, Red-necked
Phalarope (many of these normally seen during spring migration, bit slow -
no, a lot slow - central MN shorebird migration this year - and our Big
Stone trip was early)
* Barred & Short-eared Owl (first reflective of lack of effort)
* Red-headed Woodpecker (others have seen in refuge, I've just missed)
* Yellow-bellied & Willow Flycatcher (Olive-sided heard and seen this
morning on Blue Hill Trail, Sherburne Refuge)
* Blue-headed and Philadelphia Vireo (first is a puzzle)
* Magnolia, Black-throated Blue, Pine, Bay-breasted, Blackpoll Warblers
(first & third are mysteries, last two are later migrants)
* Henslow's Sparrow (not up here for a couple of years).
Nate has seen or heard at least six of these, simply a personal list.
(Remember, I'm out in the mornings before work 5-6 days per week throughout
the year.)
No wonder I'm 20 or so behind most years since moving here in 2003.
