Guiding this weekend in Aitkin County we found: 2 - Great Gray Owls on CR 18, and Pietz' Rd 2 - Short-eared Owls - 18 & 5, and Pietz' Rd Yellow Rails - more than 22 in the McGregor Marsh, access easiest from the Soo Line Trail Sharp-tailed Sparrows singing along Hwy 65, LeCont's Sparrows, lots of territorial warblers, saw 18 species including 5 Connecticut's - most of the Connecticut's on the Hedbom Rd. Black-backed Woodpecker nesting along Hedbom Rd. Brown Creepers carrying food, Black-billed Cuckoo, and nice looks at Yellow-bellied Flycatchers. Many of the expected birds, all in all a beautiful weekend to be out in Aitkin County.
