Over the past few days the city of Sleepy Eye has drawn down the NW and SW sewage ponds which are the ponds closest to the entrance. This has created some gravel bars and very good foraging conditions for shorebirds. Some of the shorebirds seen this evening included:
1 Semipalmated Plover 1 Greater Yellowlegs 1 female Wilson's Phalarope 1 female Red-necked Phalarope 2 Sanderlings At least 7 Pectoral Sandpipers 20-30 Semipalmated Sandpipers 20-30 White-rumped Sandpipers Barring any heavy rains that raise the water level, shorebird viewing should be decent for the next one to two weeks.
