In Lake Co earlier this week, a N Hawk Owl was seen along CR 2, near the jct with Forest Road 122, or 1 mi N of the Kane Lake Rd; this is ~21 mi N of Two Harbors. (However, there were no Great Gray or N Hawk owls to be found in the Stony River Forest Rd / Whyte Rd area, which had been present 2 weeks ago.) There was a pair of Boreal Chickadees at the jct of the Stony River & Whyte roads, and another pair on CR 2, ~1.5 mi N of the Sand R. Especially surprising was an adult Wild Turkey with several chicks along CR 2, ~15 mi N of Two Harbors; I assume this to be a recent release from a local game farm.

In the Sax-Zim Bog, there were 2 pairs of Black-backed Woodpeckers along McDavitt Rd, ~2.5 mi N of Sax Rd. A Connecticut Warbler was also heard here, and another cooperative individual was seen along Owl Ave, ~1/4 mi S of Overton Rd. (There had been reports earlier that birders were having difficulty finding this species in Sax-Zim.) And a Black- billed Magpie pair was along Sax Rd, 1.5 mi W of CR 7.
