gail-thanks for that post!!! went there for first time sunday about 6pm-there were still 50 pelicans on the little land strip sitting and preening and a few more swimming around the lake. got some pics of them and a loon too as well as the cormorants although they were kinda small from the vantage point I had, but still a great day in all-stayed until 8:30. my best shot of the pelicans were those taken of the few that were around the lake swimming because they were closer to shore than those on the land strip.

Subject: [mou-net] Lake Vadnais today (Sunday, 7/11)

The pelicans are flying in to the west part of Lake Vadnais. There were well over 100 and more coming in all the time. There are still a lot of cormorants and we saw 7 trumpeter swans along the north end of the smaller west lake. We did not see the loons today but saw quite a few great blue herons, egrets and one green heron plus pied-billed grebes and the usual ducks and geese. I looked for the black tern but did not see it today. When we were there, the best place to view the pelicans was along Lake Vadnais Blvd right off Rice Street but they are scattered all over the west side lake. I don't know how long they will stay but it sure is fun to watch them fly in!
