Yippppeeee! It's almost State Fair time! Yes, I know that statement can appear to be a bummer since our typical warm days cycle here in MN is like 5 days total, but hear me out.
If you have any interest in staffing the MOU State Fair booth this year, your early commitment to signing up at your desired time and day provides many advantages and enhancements to your extending your summer and warm day admiration. So here are the Top 10 reasons to sign up early for your spot at the MOU State Fair table: #10 - You have a place to share all of your great summer adventure stories, made up or true, with like-minded and shared interest people. #9 - You get to add to the "birds I saw at the fair grounds in late August and early September", extensive and universally admired list (for all you listers out there). #8 - You're not a member of MOU yet, have been intending to for the last 20 years, and want impress all your friends and acquaintances by staffing the booth and making them think you actually belong to a group with a scientific sounding 14-letter word in their name. #7 - You are a member of MOU and want to give back by representing it and getting to play with all the new, modern display gizmos, love showing people pictures of the birds they are asking about and maybe even hearing their song. #6 - You like the sound of a spinning clicker wheel that draws kids and adults in faster than free samples at that cheese store at Mall of America (Do they actually sell cheese there by interest or simply by the guilt trip I feel after eating 12 pieces?) #5 - You like the smell of the stamp ink for the bird tattoos and flash back to the Mimeograph copies we got back in high school. #4 - You can plan your cheap transportation using the round trip bus offers on the State Fair web site - plus you love buying things on the internet and getting them in the mail so your friends can ask what's in that odd looking envelope you just got. #3 - You can't turn down free tickets to anything and since you get free State Fair tickets when you volunteer you even get to put them in your coupon envelope until you're scheduled to be at the booth. That's a safe place to keep them, right? #2 - You are a techie and want to play with the new big multipoint touch screen, computerized display running the MOU website, videos, games and photo galleries - we are talking state of the art without the need for training. Come on, now, you're drooling right? And the #1 reason for you to sign up early to staff the MOU booth this year at the State Fair is: You get to bring summer to a close with a life experience you will never forget and share it with over 100,000 people - and you get to choose the day and time you do it! Now where else in your life do you get that kind of a guarantee?!?!?!? From the email you got from our glorious team member for this event, here's how to sign up - easy and breezy!! Personally I would prefer you use the Google site and sign yourself up but if you are a tech-no person like my mom, go ahead and email us as indicated at the bottom of these instructions. At the very lease confirm somehow that your email sign up was received and processed into the list either check the on-line google site or request an email reply. We are only human volunteers here on the MOU state fair committee (all three of us) and we can miss stuff - so please use your enthusiasm to make sure you get what you know you want. There are two ways to sign up for a shift. One is on Google Calendar. 1 Go_www.google.com_ (http://www.google.com) 2. Click "Sign In" on the top right hand corner of your screen. 3. Sign in using "mouvolunteer" as your "email" and "ilovemou" as your password 4. Click the "more" drop down menu item located at just about the G in Google along the top of your screen. 5. Click "Calendar" from the drop down menu. 6. You will see a calendar centered on today's date. Scroll through until you get to August 26th 2010 where you will start to see the MOU booth shifts in red. 7. Click on the shift that you want to sign up for. I find that clicking on the actual word "Shift 1"(or 2 or 3) is the quickest and easiest. 8. Write your name after "shift 1, 2, or 3", in the "what" box at the top of the form. 9. Click "save" 10. Log out (on top right hand corner of the screen). OR email Jen or Thomas and tell us what shift you want. Jen Vieth: [email protected] Thomas Maiello: [email protected] See you at the fair!!
