I had the incredible experience of seeing many flocks of Common Nighthawks
migrate overhead as I walked the trail on the west side of Sucker Lake in
Ramsey County. One flock contained easily 500 hundred birds. They just kept
coming, like the flying monkeys of the Wicked Witch. This all happened near
dusk.

There were also warbler waves, but they were high in the trees (with their many
leaves), my bins kept fogging, and the light was bad.

I did see an Olive-sided Flycatcher.

The parking lot for this trail is off County Road F, east of Rice Street. The
driveway comes up quickly and is unsigned as you approach. I have found this
to be a good spot for warblers in the past, especially the dirt path that turns
off to the right as you walk up from the Cty. F end of the park.

Good birding,
Linda Sparling
