At 1:00 p.m. there were two Buff-breasted Sandpipers among a group of shorebirds at the north end of White Bear Lake. To reach the viewing location, park on one of the side streets where Northwest Ave. and Grand Ave. meet Highway 96. There is a public trail that leads to the lake. With White Bear Lake at such a low water level, other shorebird spots are emerging: -Lakeview Ave. on the southwest side of the lake. There is a small picnic area here. In addition to the muddy areas, if you walk down to the lake and look east, there is a rocky spit attracting a few shorebirds. -The shorelines at Lake Ave. and Banning Ave. on the west side of the lake -Penninsula Rd. on the east side of the lake (Washington Co.). There are No Parking signs all over the place.
