Hello:

I did not see any updates lately so I thought I share some sightings today at
the first parking lot at Wisconsin Point.

Highlights:

        * Long-tailed Jaeger made a short visit as it flew north to south. The
Jaeger
landed under Gull Bluff then it flew back north passed us birders then flew
over
the point towards the bay.

        * 2 Surf Scoter ( Peder spotted them )
        * 2 Western Grebes
My thoughts:

I believe that its best to watch for the jeagers and gulls from Monday to
Saturday at Wisc. Point because the Superior landfill is open and there are
more
gulls in view. The gulls tend to move back and forth from the landfill to Lake
Superior which possibly attracts the jaegers in chasing these gulls with full
crops or there are more gulls moving around when the landfill is open which
gives jaegers more gulls to harass for food. Also weather has a lot to do with
it but the winds for the most part were north to northwest since Friday, so
that
rules out that east winds are more favorable for jaeger watching from this
location. Today the landfill was closed and the gull population was low and I
suspect many of the gulls were roosting way out on Lake Superior.

Park Point gull/jaeger watching is probably more dependent on east winds to
blow
them closer to the beach but again I do not think that is the case for
Wisconsin
Point.
