Both Black Scoters and the Surf Scoter were on Lake Waconia at sunrise this
morning. They were just east of the beach moving east and away from shore.
When I stopped back briefly at 9:30 they were back in their original position
east of the beach and closer to shore. Also on the lake this morning were 2
Common Loons, Horned Grebe, Canada Geese, Mallard, Northern Shoveler, Lesser
Scaup, scaup species, Ring-necked Duck, Redhead, Canvasback, Coot,Ring-billed,
Franklin's Gull, and a Bald Eagle that did a nice job herding the coots and
ducks away from me. A very quick stop at Carver Park turned up less Wigeon,
more Canvasback, and the same mix of waterfowl that has been present lately.
A lone Greater Scaup was at Chevalle wetlands with Mallard and a few Hooded
Merganser, but that area hasn't been very productive with the higher water.
