Hello:

Highlights at Superior entry way.

- Great Black-backed Gull ( 1st cycle ) sitting on the break wall on the
Minnesota side.
- Thayer's Gull ( 2nd cycle ) flying over into Minnesota

Got a call from Peder who got a second hand report of a male Barrow's Goldeneye
behind Beacon Point Resort which is located in Duluth off I-35. Get off on 21st
Ave E exit and turn down towards the lake and park at the turn around. The
Barrow's was originally found by a birder who lives in one of the town homes at
Beacon Point. I forgot his name but we met while looking at jaegers at WI Pt.
this fall and I apologize for not remembering his name.

Peder and I saw the Barrow's Goldeneye behind the resort on Lake Superior which
is associated with about 30 or Common Goldeneyes. The flock then flew east
towards the Rose Garden where it remain till we left. Peder feels this is most
likely the same adult Barrow's Goldeneye that was present most of the winter
months last year. The "spur" or black line that comes down from the folded
wing
along the line where the flanks and breast meet is rather short and blunt just
like the same field mark on the adult male we seen several times last year.
Last
year the Barrow's Goldeneye was mostly seen in this same general area and only
a
few times it was seen in the entry way at Canal Park.

Winter storm is suppose to hit Duluth tomorrow and hopefully some stray will be
found after the storm moves out.
