This Thursday (11/18) the Minnesota River Valley Audubon Chapter (MRVAC) will
hold its annual auction fund raiser. Last year we raised over a thousand
dollars for the goods and services that were offered at the auction. We invite
you to join us at visitor's center of the refuge for the fun. The auction
starts at 7pm, but come between 6pm and 6:30 for the refreshments and if you
have anything you want to contribute for the auction. Sharon Stiteler will be
calling the auction. Some of the many items that will be offered include
baked goods, jams and jellies, Aveda products, books (including the North Woods
Naturalist Series of fieldguides), and a Vortex Skyline Spotting Scope from
Eagle Optics.
We have committed to fund internships at the Minnesota River Valley National
Refuge for the next three summers. We have already found matching funding for
our $2500 annual contribution. In addition to this we will be providing funds
to provide busing for school children to programs at the refuge, which again is
doubled by matching funds. We also provided classroom materials for teaching
environmental education in elementary schools in our area. As with last year's
funds, all the money raised at the auction will be spent on environmental
education and conservation projects. In all we have committed to providing
$10,000 annually for these programs. Not bad for our little organization of
less than a thousand members.
